The marketplace landscape
Not all marketplaces are the same. Understanding the four broad categories helps you decide where your products belong — and where they don't.
Four categories of marketplace
General marketplaces
Large platforms selling almost every product category, with huge buyer traffic and strong fulfilment infrastructure. Highest volume potential, but also the most competition.
Specialist / vertical marketplaces
Platforms focused on one vertical — fashion, home & living, handmade, electronics, B2B parts. Smaller audiences, but buyers arrive with clear intent and category fit matters.
Regional EU champions
Strong national platforms that dominate their home markets — often ahead of global players in local buyer trust and payment preferences. Key to reaching Germany, Poland, France and other markets properly.
Global platforms
Marketplaces operating across many countries and continents, useful for sellers with cross-border logistics already in place or ambitions beyond Europe.

How Mercadex helps you choose
During onboarding we look at your product category, price point, margins, logistics setup and target regions — then map them against the marketplace categories above. The outcome is a shortlist of channels where your products are likely to perform, not a blanket "list everywhere" approach.
